David Ochoa

EMBL-EBI

Short CV:

David Ochoa joined Open Targets in 2019, where he currently works as the Platform and Informatics Science Coordinator. David is involved in setting the scientific strategy for informatics science projects and managing the day-to-day operations of core database projects in collaboration with industry partners. Before joining Open Targets, David obtained his PhD, utilising computational methods and network biology to predict protein-protein interactions. After graduating, he joined the group of Pedro Beltrao at EMBL-EBI as a postdoctoral fellow to gain a deeper understanding of human signalling under perturbation and disease by leveraging the growing body of large-scale proteomics data and the latest computational approaches in data analysis and machine learning.

Abstract:

Identifying the right drug target for the correct indication is a critical step in developing safe and effective medicines.  The Open Targets public-private partnership aims to gain a deeper understanding of the various factors influencing target selection, providing a systematic view of disease causality and target modulation. In this talk, we will walk through some of the factors that lead to successful targets in different therapeutic areas with a particular focus on understanding how we could inform future medicines.
