Ángel Lucio Pereira is the CEO of Tetraneuron, a Spanish biotechnology company specializing in gene therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. He has more than 18 years of international experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, having held leadership positions at Johnson & Johnson, Takeda, Sanofi, and other multinational companies across business development, M&A, strategy, and commercial operations.
An investor in and board member of Tetraneuron since 2019, he is currently leading the company’s transition into the clinical stage and its international expansion, advancing an innovative platform with the potential to transform the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
Alzheimer’s Disease at a Turning Point: From Amyloid to Next-Generation Gene Therapy
Abstract:
The therapeutic landscape of Alzheimer’s disease is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades. While anti-amyloid therapies have demonstrated that disease modification is possible, they have also highlighted the need for approaches capable of addressing the complex, multifactorial biology underlying neurodegeneration. This presentation will explore the evolution of Alzheimer’s drug development, the opportunities created by advances in biomarkers and gene therapy, and the emergence of next-generation therapeutic strategies. Through the example of Tetraneuron’s first-in-human gene therapy program, the session will discuss the scientific rationale, translational challenges, and future potential of gene therapy to reshape the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
